Overview
Penny Black Media is a specialist in in-flight entertainment, distributing a rich portfolio of international films to airlines around the globe.
As part of the Spafax Group, the brand required a website that better represented their position in the market, reflected their refined new branding, and supported faster discovery of seasonal, thematic and featured content.
Yellowball was engaged to reimagine the entire website experience – introducing a darker, more cinematic aesthetic while ensuring fast access to featured films, categories, and search. The site needed to feel editorial yet functional, with content managers and airline buyers as the core audience.
-
Flexible website blocks to highlight campaigns, categories and themes
-
Dark-mode design system with light sections for contrast and accessibility
-
Film search powered by predictive results across titles, actors and themes
The Challenge
Penny Black Media’s existing site no longer reflected the scale or quality of their catalogue.
Their film content was difficult to browse, seasonal promotions were hard to highlight, and manual admin created bottlenecks. They needed a refreshed website that felt curated, cinematic, and built for busy airline content managers.
What We Did
A functional, editorial website built around clarity and curation.
We delivered a bold new website experience that blends a dark theme with flexible CMS blocks – allowing Penny Black Media to showcase seasonal collections, trending titles and priority content in just a few clicks.
The design accommodates takeover zones for campaigns like Pride and International Women’s Day, alongside a powerful global search bar and featured film carousels. With future-proofing in mind, we scoped a system for automated document generation based on film metadata, reducing manual content admin over time.
The Result
A scalable new website that elevates Penny Black Media’s digital presence.
The updated design helps the team spotlight key campaigns, guide users to curated content and surface seasonal features. Built in WordPress using ACF and Gutenberg, it puts the brand in full control of their website content, while laying the foundation for future improvements across the wider site.
